Abstract

Suicide is a different and particular problem. It is a rare and multi-determined event that raises both ethical and practical issues in research while constituting a disastrous event consciously chosen by the victims. Each one of its characteristics poses challenges and represents opportunities of interesting innovations. This article describes the specificity of suicide and explains the lack of innovative practices in suicide prevention in Quebec. As examples, a few possible paths of innovation are proposed. Numerous possibilities in suicide prevention exist in Quebec. According to the author, the time has come to create more innovative projects instead of continuing on repeating what already exists (research on variables already studied or promotion of traditional projects).
