Abstract

A statistical analysis of suicides committed by alcoholic patients demonstrated that the suicidal risk of this group is the highest in comparison with any other mental disorder. Most of the alcoholic patients (64%) committed suicide not in psychotic conditions, but in affective states in the form of alcoholic dysphoria or reactions of protest and despair in the presence of psychotraumatizing situations. It is for this reason that alcoholic patients with suicidal ideas and tendencies having no signs of alcoholic psychosis, even in an alcoholic intoxication should be urgently hospitalized.
