Abstract

The surgical principles of the management of trauma and accidents are the same the world over. However, under the special circumstances of international travel, the exact technical methods used to achieve desirable results may well differ from methods that those who live in the West are familiar with. This chapter discusses the special dangers that international travel brings, relevant preparation for such travel, methods of prevention that may be necessary, and the early and late management of trauma under the often adverse circumstances that prevail in distant parts of the globe, with advice on indications for repatriation in severe injuries.
