Abstract

For the American states in 1980, the positive association between suicide rates and rates of marriage with a divorced bride or groom was stronger than that between suicide rates and rates of marriage with a non-divorced bride or groom. However, these latter associations were still positive, though weaker, suggesting that marriage itself may be suicidogenic for American society.
