Abstract

The use of electronic components in automobiles is spreading at an amazing speed. Up to now, safety design is provided to electronic components on an individual unit basis. However, we attempted to formulate an across-the-board safety design concept and method considering the impact on the driver in case an electronic component has failed. We defined safety design classes on the basis of the results obtained from a case study using compact passenger cars.
