Abstract

In this study, a 3-year-old child finite element (FE) human model has been developed by scaling down body dimensions, joint properties and material properties of a MADYMO 50th percentile adult FE human model. The model's biofidelity has been evaluated based on the Q3 dummy certification requirements. The results indicate a human-like behavior of the model. Furthermore, side crash simulations were performed with the child model in a child restraint system. The simulation results were used to perform an investigation towards the prediction of injuries caused by the interaction between a child and a child restraint system.
