Abstract

In Japan, there are a lot of earthquakes and many elevated highways in the traffic system. Even though the elevated highways can with-stand an earthquake of less than 3 m/s2, the responses of vehicles and drivers during earthquakes have not been studied in detail. In this paper, steering operations of drivers are analyzed based on the steering energy of the driver, which is calculated from the angular velocity of the steering wheel and the steering torque. The objective of this study is to clarify driver and vehicle behavior during earthquakes. To achieve this purpose, experiments using a driving simulator were carried out.
