Abstract

The paper presents a statistical analysis of the number of automobile accidents, resulting in injuries and fatalities, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (K.S.A.) during the period 1971-1980. Analysis of the data collected indicates that the number of accidents resulting in injuries and fatalities are not linearly related to the number of cars and time. The effects of road accidents (RTA) are discussed, using results of studies that were carried out in Riyadh and other parts of the kingdom, while some of the reasons for the magnitude of the problem are also present. Further analysis of the available data, and, in particular, a comparison study of figures from the USA and UK and those of KSA indicate clearly that accidents involving "no injury" or "minor injury" are officially "under-reported" in Saudi Arabia.
