Abstract

It is well-known that perception involves both sensory input and reference to stored information and expectancies. As the amount of information available through the senses is diminished, one becomes increasingly reliant upon nonsensory information. The task of night driving is an example of an impoverished stimulus situation in which many crucial decisions are made on the basis of expectancies alone.
