Abstract

Data about accidents when mounting and descending agricultural tractors and trailers were analysed in 1988. This was done to define accumulations of accidents, to gain information on causal factors and to find real starting points for appropriately directed safety measures. For conducting these indirect, retrospective risk analyses multivariate methods were used. They supply criteria to distinguish between significant and non-significant components within the complex accident systems. So, they furnish decision aids for choosing appropriate measures to prevent accidents. Mathematical models are constructed to quantify the multiple influence of main effects and interactions on the frequency and severity of accidents. The main results were selected from these comprehensive models and discussed.
