Abstract

A practical view is taken of the arguments presented for and against the unification of traffic sciences. It is concluded that only slow progress will be made towards maximising the benefits of traffic systems for society if the contributory disciplines fail to unify. The potential achievements of unification and possible barriers to its attainment are briefly considered.
