Abstract

It is evident that visual perception plays the role of fundamental importance in the driver-vehicle-environment system. How a driver sees and interprets a moving scene ahead of him is most relevant to the problem of road traffic safety. Perceptual misjudgments have been found to be a major factor in many road accidents. The present report, therefore, will discuss the findings from a "macroscopic" perception research project concerning visual search, signed detection, and velocity judgment.
