Abstract

Depression among mothers of children is recognized as a public health problem affecting not only mothers but also the children in their care.(1) Infants of depressed mothers may be at risk of child abuse and are more likely to exhibit insecure attachment patterns.(1) Postpartum depression is believed to afflict 10-20% of mothers,(2) and putting countermeasures in place has become a major issue for maternal and child health in Japan.(3) © 2012 The Authors.
