Abstract

This paper summarises the results of computer simulations of the flow of hot gases following the fire at King's Cross Underground station. These simulations were responsible for first drawing attention to the trench effect, which was responsible for the rapid spread of the fire. The results also indicate that, once the trench effect became established, the effect of train movements upon the flow would be secondary.
