Abstract

This study presents numerical results for the simulation of a military tracked vehicle. The vehicle model and the flexible band track model developed are presented in Sandu and Freeman (2005). The vehicle model contains a chassis, trailing-arm suspensions, road wheels, support rollers, rear driving sprockets, front idlers, and a tensioning mechanism. The suspension systems are modular. The track model is independent of the vehicle model. The tracked vehicle model was used to run several simulations tests to analyse the influence of the terrain geometry, soil characteristics, and vehicle speed on the performances of a military tracked vehicle.
