Abstract

The development of a technique for carrying out road and bench tests on the brake system components of vehicles and their simulation with the use of a modern computer environment and software are actual scientific problems. This paper describes different ways for carrying out road and bench tests on the brake systems of vehicles with the help of the hardware-in-the-loop technique. It covers the following issues: substantiation of positive feedback introduction into disc brakes to provide a self-boosting effect; the concept of disc brake design with self-boosting which has minimal hysteresis and a very rapid rate and can be used for different types of vehicle brake system; estimation of the dependence of the brake system's efficiency for a medium-duty truck on the hysteresis value of the disc brakes with the help of bench tests (the analytical dependences of the braking distance on the relative change in the hysteresis will be obtained and can be used for definition of the brake system's efficiency in accordance with the hysteresis value of the disc brakes); analysis of the self-boosting influence of the disc brakes on the brake system's efficiency of a truck tractor on the basis of road test results. To a first approximation it will be substantiated that the efficiency of the vehicle's brake system can be enhanced using the proposed disc brake with self-boosting.
