Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the criteria for detecting various driver BACs under field conditions.  Survey sites were selected by  multistage sampling procedure designed to be representative of the United States.  Passive alcohol sensors housed in a flashlight (PAS) were used for evaluating alcohol use while also using evidential breath test devices. Data from the tests have allowed the determination of appropriate criteria at various blood alcohol concentrations. Results of these studies indicate that more widespread use of PAS can aid detection of drinking drivers.
