Abstract

Drinking experiments with higher aliphatic alcohols (alone and in combination) in mixtures of orange juice and ethanol were performed. In blood samples of the test persons the consumed Propanol-1, and -2, as well as Butanol-2, and Isobutanol could be regularly detected, partly unbound, partly as sulfates and phosphates. Butanol-1, 2- and 3-Methylbutanol-1 were found only irregularly and in very small concentrations. Oxidation of the higher alcohols is inhibited depending on the ethanol content of the beverage. Competitive inhibition of oxidation between the higher alcohols cannot be presumed because of their very small concentration.
