Abstract

The author reviews the available post-schooling models in the Federal Republic of Germany for the treatment of blatantly alcoholic drivers, especially first offenders. In passing he mentions the customary methods of treating traffic offenders in Austria. Furthermore he reviews the differences of opinion regarding the pros and cons of post schooling. In addition the relevant court decisions are discussed. Lastly he reviews the effects and results of post-schooling which can be assessed. In spite of certain reservations the author concludes that the traffic problem should be fought with all available means and, hence, that at least an attempt should be made by means of post-schooling to decrease the relapse incidence.
