Abstract

We report about 46 drunken driving offenders tested to their driving ability. The drivers were emigrants of German heritage from Poland and the former Soviet Union. It was evident, that most drunk driving offences happened during the first years after settling in Germany. This could be explained by the enormous difficulties during this time due to language problems, unemployment, and life style differences. If the stabilisation of integration was considered positive, the driving ability was likely to be considered positive as well, compared with a control group. Altogether according to the test results, driving ability was found to be limited and restrictions an the driving licence were necessary.
