Abstract

The determinations of alcohol in blood carried out after the coming into force of article 24 a StVG (federal road regulations) are compared with a corresponding collective of the previous year in a statistical investigation. The total number of blood extractions ordered by the police remained constant in the periods compared though, initially, a decrease followed by an increase was noticed. It was not possible to prove statistically significant shiftings in the blood alcohol concentrations. However, the accidents caused by road users under alcoholic influence decreased which evidently is a consequence of more frequent routine controls by the police.
