Abstract

A comparative study on drugs in serum samples of impaired drivers carried out by the Institute of Legal Medicine in Rostock is presented. The results relate to the region of Mecklenburg in Germany in the years 1993/94- and 1997. A rise of drug using drivers to 10.6 per cent could be detected. In particular, the number of Cannabis users increased significantly. Thus a further adjustment to the epidemiological situation of western German states took place. The obtained results were compared to similar studies from Germany and Switzerland. The significance of standardised study designs was underlined.
