Abstract

The use of cell phones for conversation and Internet access has become all but essential in everyday life. The number of cellular subscriber has reached more than 6.8 billion subscribers around the globe (i.e., 97 phones per 100 citizens). This significant rise in use of cellular phones has been associated with an increase in road accidents for those who use phones while driving. As the technology becomes more conventional and users become more technologically dependent, the need to reduce distraction-related risk while operating a motor vehicle also increases. This paper proposes a new real time safety device based on Surface Mount Technologies (SMT) which helps in preventing the cell phone distraction crashes. This system is also tested in roads and the effectiveness of the system by comparing with other existing systems.
