Abstract

OBJECTIVE: This study's main objective was to characterize psychosocial factors related to victimization to highlight the factors that are involved in bullying/victimization.

METHODS: This study had the participation of 3195 students from all over Portugal (mean age = 11.8 years). The variables included: (1) health-related quality of life (HRQoL) dimensions; and (2) interpersonal and psychological factors.

RESULTS: We found a strong relationship between victimization and other HRQoL dimensions, such as mood and emotions, self-perception, peer group and economic status. We also found a relationship between victimization, self-esteem, health behaviors, and social support.

CONCLUSIONS: This study showed that victimization is related to HRQoL, especially regarding psychological variables, economic variables, age, and social support.
