Abstract

Reviews 12 studies dealing with physical and mental fatigue, work, and inhibition (1914-1916). Fatigue and exhaustion are a result of spending the sum total of available potential energy. The effect of physical fatigue on mental efficiency, as expressed by addition and multiplication, is very irregular. Recovery from mental fatigue is very rapid, as compared to that from muscle repair, and thus, mental fatigue may seem to be rare. In order to understand the effects of inhibition, studies have been carried out on the simultaneous and alternating finger movements in tapping. The influence of climate on man's industry and culture has also been discussed.
