Abstract

This issue of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Clinics of North America focuses on juvenile delinquency, advancements over the past century, current proceedings, and ongoing dilemmas. With the recognition of children, their vulnerability, and unique needs delineating them from adults, many policies and services have been established to protect and meet the needs of children. These changes also encompassed youth delinquency. The first youth detention center, The New York House of Refuge, was developed and the first juvenile court was established in Chicago during the nineteenth century.
