Abstract

This article is an updated version of research findings published in the October 1993 issue of Transportation Quarterly. This current study reviews what is known about the stages that a typical weary driver experiences as drowsiness eventually causes loss of consciousness. It also includes actual case histories of these phenomena as documented in the literature, as well as from the author's research.
