Abstract

The paper presents the results of studies on the turning of stationary articulated vehicles. Mathematical models of articulated vehicles are suggested representing the most popular methods of coupling wheels to power transmission systems. Using these models, the author presents an analytical description of wheel slips and slides during the turning of these vehicles while stationary. The paper points out that in the case of an articulated vehicle with one axle coupled to the power transmission system, a kinematic slip angle only occurs; in the case of a vehicle with two axles coupled by a driving shaft, however, longitudinal slips also occur. These slips have opposite signs for the outer and inner wheels. The results of computations concerning slip angles and longitudinal wheel slips for different design parameters of an articulated vehicle are presented diagramatically.
