Abstract

Recent safety campaigns have focussed on the safety of children as they walk to school. Yet children may be at greater risk of an accident on their leisure journeys. This paper explores children's interaction with the road environment in the wider context and concludes the 'safe route' concept might be extended to a wider range of child pedestrian movements, for example to parks or leisure centres.
