Abstract

Increasing use of pedestrian facilities such as walkways, malls, special signals, and vehicle-free zones calls for basic pedestrian volume characteristics for the planning, design and operation of such facilities. An extensive counting study undertaken in Seattle is described and has provided data for meaningful decisions.
