Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the factors involved in rural older adults' decisions to stop driving. The sample was 30 men and 45 women with a mean age of 83.6 years. Prior accidents, feelings of insecurity about driving, impaired health, and the influence of family and friends were found to be significant factors in the decision to forfeit a driver's license. Regret and a sense of isolation were consequences of that decision.
