Abstract

The creation of mathematical models of the BioSID dummy, for use in side impact simulation studies is the objective of this paper. Two dummy models were created and are now being tested in numerical side impact models of the vehicle. The first model (multibody model) is used in a lumped-mass model of the side structure, for studying the door padding and door intrusion characteristics. The second model (finite element dummy model) is implemented into finite element model of vehicles, allowing the vehicle-dummy interaction to be studied in much greater detail them is possible with physical testing or lump-mass models.
