Abstract

A car-to-car 50% offset frontal collision test is conducted to experimentally analyze vehicle interior deformation and occupant behavior during a collision in relation to the occurrence of ankle/foot injuries. The acceleration of the toe-board, floor, brake pedal and other footwell components and the amount of load generated on the lower legs during a collision are also examined. The floor, toe-board and pedals are observed to not only longitudinally move or deform but also transversely and vertically, and different motions and varied forces of lower legs are obtained.
