Abstract

The lower extremities of restrained front seat occupants of the cars are the second most common site of the AIS 2+ injuries of the seriously injured car crash survivors. The purpose of this analysis is to define the crash conditions where lower limb injuries are sustained and to examine the consequences in terms of the types of injuries sustained. It is intended that the work should provide an input to current bio-mechanical research. The analysis is based on accident data collected in the UK from 1983 under the Cooperative Crash Injury Study.
