Abstract

The article contains an overview of the results of the EU research project "Alcohol interlock implementation in the European Union - An in-depth qualitative field trial". The aim of the project was to study the practical testing of alcolocks. Four European countries conducted pilot trials with three different groups of motor vehicle drivers: (1) DUI offenders or drivers addicted to alcohol (Belgium), (2) HGV drivers (Germany) and (3) Bus drivers in public transport (Norway, Spain). The article includes the main results of the pilot trials from which recommendations for the implementation of alcolocks in the context of primary and secondary prevention are derived.
