Abstract

The pedestrian level of service for sidewalks is studied from the angle of pedestrians' comfort and the sense of safety. The geometrical and operational characteristics of nine typical roadway segments were collected, and at the same time pedestrian questionnaire survey was carried out through intercept survey method. Based on the survey data and Pearson correlation analysis, it is believed that the main influential factors of pedestrian level of service include width of dividing strip between motor vehicle lanes and non-motorized vehicle lane, width of non-motorized vehicle lane, width of landscaped strip (or device strip), width of sidewalk, motor vehicle volume, non-motorized vehicle volume, pedestrian flow rate and obstruction. A practical regression model and a combined pedestrian level of service model form are developed by multiple step-wise regression analysis.
