Abstract

Cellular phones have emerged as a potential source of digital danger for users across several countries. Cellular phones are responsible for vehicular accidents, as users engage in conversation while driving. A study conducted by the University of Toronto reveals that operating a mobile phone, while driving a vehicle increases accident risks by 400-500 times as compared intoxicated driving. It is also estimated that operating a mobile phone while driving a vehicle, creates significant possibilities and risk of accidents. Increase in the number cellular phones and their use, while driving has resulted in more than 2,500 deaths in vehicular accidents in the US. The Virginia Tech Transportation Intitute and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have compiled data, which indicates that 80% of the accidents and 65% of near-accidents occur due to inattentive drivers who operate mobile phones while driving.
