Abstract

The model of Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system based on the Constant Time-Gap (CTG) spacing policy was established. The impacts on highway traffic safety and capacity of the ACC system under different headway time were studied in detail. An ACC platoon with 8 vehicles in several emergency scenarios were simulated to show the safety benefits of the ACC system. The influences of ACC system under different headway time on highway traffic capacity were analyzed based on the 'Highway Pipe' model, and the suitable conditions for the use of ACC system were also proposed.
