Abstract

According to the analytical theory of electrostatic hidden troubles and the practical data gathered in a railway freight yard for dangerous goods, the electrostatic hidden hazards in the railway freight yard for dangerous goods were directly evaluated and analyzed, and two models, namely, the floating human body model and the human body-barrow model, were put forward. Some feasible preventive measures were presented. Practical data, direct evaluation results, mechanism analysis and model analysis all show that there exist serious electrostatic hidden hazards in the railway freight yard for dangerous goods because there is an obvious state of electrostatic shock to the human body, and there are not only lots of easy-burning or easy-blasting goods but also many kinds of electrostatic sources in the railway freight yard. The electrostatic discharge energy exceeds the minimum igniting energy of most easy-burning goods, thus resulting in the difficulty in the removal of hidden hazards of burning and blasting caused by electrostatic discharge. Therefore, more attention should be paid to the protection of electrostatic discharge in the railway freight yard for dangerous goods.
