Abstract

The main objective of this paper is to show the behaviour of train cars under impact due to lateral roll over. Several accidents including trains occurred during the last years, and their consequences have increased the efforts to study and undertake research on structural behaviour of train cars; lateral roll over being one of those subjects. No standards regarding lateral roll over are nowadays applied; however, Geneva Standard RC-66 related to coaches is used as a reference. Based on this standard, a finite elements calculation of a train car roll over was performed and its results are analysed.
