Abstract

Authors analyzed the twice crossing from the use of space-time resource and pedestrian delay, and built the formula of pedestrian delay based on the design of signal system for pedestrian crossing. Take the situation when pedestrian delay was less than his extreme endurance time as the criterion, the permitted vehicle volume range for twice crossing could be gotten if the width of road and pedestrian volume was definite. It was the range of vehicle volume set for pedestrian twice crossing which could ensure pedestrian safety while time-space resource could be utilized economically. The result shows that pedestrian twice crossing can utilize space-time resource more efficiently contrasting to once crossing; what's more, the waiting time of pedestrian to get the right to pass decreases.
