Abstract

A survey of Traffic Calming Practices in 21 leading jurisdictions in Sacramento County is presented. Some of the most significant changes are mainstreaming of programs within transportation or public works departments, less apparent controversy surrounding programs, greater reliance on private financing of construction and more public involvement in planning through neighborhood traffic committees. The survey also includes limited expansion of eligibility beyond local streets to collectors and arterials and expansion of individual agency tool boxes to include a greater range of speed control measures. Practices and policies that have not changed significantly are also outlined.
