Abstract

The impact of security and safety in a car park on vehicles and their contents is discussed. The car park achieved a 'good' rating when assessed during both day and night time. A park is being implemented to improve the public perception of the safety of the facility, to improve patronage in the Plaza and to allow the council to more carefully manage risks. The safety issues that should be considered include lack of identified safe routes for pedestrains through most of the car park, relatively high traffic speeds, inappropriate road markings, and a risk of pedestrians tripping at several locations because of the uneven surface.
