Abstract

The road safety situation in Lebanon is considered. It is noted that in general, the transportation system in Lebanon is chaotic and lacks sufficient traffic control systems. Data on traffic accidents during 1980-1984 are surveyed and analyzed. In order to improve the traffic situation in Lebanon, a number of measures is suggested. These measures include some items concerning collecting more comprehensive data on accidents in the roads. Besides, traffic laws should be strictly enforced; emergency medical services including air rescue teams should be set up; a proper road maintenance program should be established; comprehensive traffic regulation teams should be widely implemented; and some other measures.
