Abstract

A research on the effectiveness of traffic sign symbols in the U.S. Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) for all drivers was undertaken. Traffic symbol sign design guidelines and improvements of the current U.S. MUTCD were developed. The design guidelines minimized symbol complexity by using few details and maximizing the distance between sign elements.
