Abstract

This survey provides information on non-MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) warning devices being designed and used by roadway agencies. This is aimed at providing guidance to practicing engineers in developing warning signs for unusual geometric, operational, and traffic control conditions not adequately addressed by roadway warning signs. The acquired information was collected into a database, which included a set of key words so that the devices could be grouped by either the function needs for the device or by distinct features.
