Abstract

The records from the only Tasmanian (Australia) High School with a compulsory driver education programme are compared with those from four other high schools on which a similar study was undertaken. The Driver Education Course reduces the types and varieties of traffic offences most frequently shown by those of lesser intelligence in the four high schools. It also reduces the 'non-moving' offences in those of higher intelligence. The initial skills gained from the Course by those of lower intelligence are partially lost within two years and if the rate of diminution continues will be eliminated in four years.
