Abstract

This article presents frontal crash test data for impact tests conducted on 2004 model year vehicles. A large table is provided compiled from the individual 2004 vehicle model crash test reports. Test speeds and crush dimensions are converted to English units. Listed 'curb weight' was the weight of the vehicle (with full fluids) as delivered to the testing agency. Test weight is vehicle weight with fluids removed and cameras, data collection equipment, and crash test dummies added. A weighted average was used to calculate 'average crush' dimension, giving end points half-weight in the average. This is because end points only have half the influence on vehicle crush area as do interior crush points. 74 photographs are also included of some of the best-selling 2004 models at the instant of impact.
