Abstract

This article discusses personal injury evaluations in motor vehicle accident cases, with a focus on the legal context of psychological evaluations. The authors outline the main principles of these evaluations, including methods of determining pre-incident adjustment, evaluating malingering, and considering both pre-existing psychological problems and concurrent stressors. The authors use specific motor vehicle accident (MVA) cases, comparing the physical stressors and social stressors of MVAs to other cases that involve situations of workplace discrimination or harassment; this method is used to illustrate the similarities and differences in varying situations and to underscore the principles outlined in the article.
