Abstract

When a crash occurs, other factors being equal: 1) The lighter the vehicle, the less risk to other road users and 2) The heavier the vehicle, the less risk to its occupants. I see no reason why these "laws" would not apply over the entire spectrum of vehicle mass, from pedalcycles, through motorcycles, small cars, large cars, small and large buses, trains, etc. If you abandon your car for a motorcycle, you increase your risk but make everyone else safer.
